The South Coast Railway

2nd Quarter News 2009

The second quarter of the year is now over and the first thing that I have done is a few small changes to my website. There are now a few more navigation buttons on the bottom of the pages to take you back to the top and some more buttons to help view the news archive pages, which give a good insight into how the railway evolves. The second small change I have made is including the manufactures of the rolling stock. I have been asked for these details and now only have the coaches left to check through. I have been doing some of the smaller bits of scenery around the railway. Putting in under-bush around building edges and gaps that needed a bit of filling. This has made a lot of areas look a lot better. I will be carrying on with this until I think it looks right.

From a very good York Model Railway show this year I bought a box of the Sea-Foam trees. These, after soaking and covering in scatter make some very good looking trees. I have placed quite a lot of these around the railway and they give it a lot of depth. These are worth having a look at as they are very good value for money.

Above the railway on the ceiling I have now mounted some of the National Railway Museum posters. These add to the railway feel of the loft. I have quite a lot more to go up, and this too I will be carrying on with.

The first two items of rolling stock that have been stripped have now returned to service, these are another Midland Brake Van and another Cable Drum wagon. These were totally stripped of paint using car brake fluid and were so clean they were put straight into service. There is still a lot of goods stock being stripped and the re-painted that is on-going. Other maintenance work that has been carried out this quarter is the re-glazing of the Class 55 Deltic Meld. The windows were not great and have been replaced with South Eastern Flushglaze. This has now improved the looks of Meld.

New stock arriving this quarter is as follows, a great new Diesel Loco, 1Co-Co1 Class 40 Number D285 in BR Blue. North Eastern B12 Class 4-6-0 Number 7475 in Black and the last loco former Colliery Tank D class 0-4-0 Number 2. The last of the rolling stock is a Queen Mary Brake Van.
